Özet
Asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) is the primary candidate technology for emerging high-speed networks. ATM standardization provides the basic framework for building ATM networks. Although the development of ATM standards and the availability of high-speed links in the network is essential, what really matters is how ATM networks are enabled so as to integrate different services with different traffic characteristics and service requirements. Two important contributions to this integration are the development of network control services complementing ATM standards while achieving high utilization of network resources and the efficient implementation of the ATM standards in the network. In this paper, we present a short overview of the current status of ATM standards, discuss how various control services that were developed in IBM's Networking BroadBand Services architecture complement the ATM standards, and provide an overview of various functions included in the architecture for their efficient implementation.
