| This book delves into the idea and practice of togetherness in Istanbul. Based on Henri Lefebvre’s social space and the theoretical linkage it unfolded, it considers the constitutive effects of spatial encounters on the perception of living with diverse, plural, and unfamiliar others in Istanbul. The focal point for spatial encounters is derived from the ordinariness of everyday practices in the metropolis. As modern dwellers, we live with the city, which constitutes a socio-spatial totality. To live in the city, on the other hand, we necessitate movement that we often comprehend under the premise of “to be somewhere on time”. As ordinary as these mobilities may be, they construct concrete experiences for us and constitute a good deal of our practical life-spheres.
