| This book presents an evaluation of the cluster literature and underlines the growing importance of clusters in today’s economic world. My purpose in writing a book on clusters was to investigate the types of benefits offered by them and check research findings to see whether they served as a catalyst in the processes of local, regional and national development, as claimed in theory. In a nutshell, I tried to find an answer to the following question: are they the panacea to all of our economic and business-related problems? I scrutinized many studies about the successful clusters around the world and in Turkey and evaluated the advantages they offered at the macro-level of analysis. I also reviewed the cluster literature at the micro-level of analysis and pointed out several issues that need to be investigated further. Finally, my answer to the question of whether the clusters are a panacea is presented at the end of the book along with suggestions for further research.Although it would be impossible to mention the names of all people who have contributed to this book in different ways, there are a few people to whom I owe special thanks. I would like to thank Prof. Özlem Öz who first introduced me to the cluster literature when I was her PhD thesis student at Boğaziçi University. |
